Several years ago, Jesse &
Rosa Vasquez bought the Alfred Wickman home on 4th and Hwy. 22,
across from the park. They had plans to retire there after years
of working on the Parks’ Ranch and with the Lake Family after
they bought it. They had it rented out until they got ready to
move; probably in a year or so; and the place caught fire and
burned plumb to the ground.

Volunteer firefighters from
here in the Gap; assisted by Meridian and Clifton; fought it
best they could but it was too late to save any part of it. They
had lived in this community for some over 20 years and put all
their kids through Gap Schools. Sandra is a former "Miss
Septemberfest" and best I can tell, all their kids are still
productive citizens of Bosque County. Anyhow, they had no
insurance and lacked about a year payments on the mortgage. Many
folks stepped up and helped the family that was living there and
now everybody going try to give the Vasquez Family some help.
There was a "pot-luck" dinner
at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, with help from the Baptist and
Methodist churches. There was a "free-will" offering taken and
the money raised will be supplemented by the Supplemental Fund
of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans; Waco Chapter # 30125. If
you’d like to help; but couldn't make the dinner; you can mail
donations to St. Olaf Lutheran Church, 402 Meridian St.,
Cranfills Gap Tx. 76637. Make checks out to St. Olaf Luther
Church and place "Vasquez Family" in the memo. All funds
raised will go directly to the Vasquez family and your help will
be much appreciated. It's all to benefit a good family who
have been a big part of the Gap Community for many years.
The final tally in not in but it appears that
between $4000 and $5000 was raised and will be matched by the
Thrivent group. Congratulations citizens of Cranfills Gap
and good luck to the Vasquez family.
